Philosophy of Care

Although each resident is at Annabel House for different reasons, they all have one thing in common - they cannot be cared for in their natural environment which was, prior to moving in, most likely their home or the home of a relative.

At Annabel House, we strive to provide a home for our residents and not an institution. We aim to cater for all their needs, whether they are physical, emotional or spiritual.

We aim to provide each resident with the maximum possible quality of care within the confines of their specific needs and limitations. Whilst recognising these limitations, we try to build on their capabilities through our comprehensive activities program, and through the day-to-day life of living in a communal environment. These factors, many of which were unavailable to our residents prior to joining us, can significantly improve quality of life.

Medication is kept to a "minimum" and is regularly reviewed to ensure that residents have maximum quality of life without chemical dependence. Opportunity is provided for residents to make decisions for themselves, wherever possible, even though this may entail the acceptance by the resident and carer of a degree of risk. Residents are encouraged to promote any self-care, which may be necessary to enhance their independence at Annabel House.

It is our policy that our resident’s privacy and dignity will be respected at all times.

We monitor and improve the effectiveness of our service through regular staff, resident and relative meetings, and we supply relatives with a monthly progress report. Relatives can feel safe in the knowledge that our residents are being well looked after and that any problems can be dealt with promptly.

Making the decision to put an elderly relative into care can be a difficult one, but we strongly believe that our philosophies provide our residents, relatives and staff with so many positives, and we invite you to come visit us for yourself.
